From 1977 through April 1, 2008 there have been 94 persons convicted of murder and sentenced to death in the State of Indiana. Ten (Moore, Averhart, Roark, Kennedy, Burris, Minnick, J. Lowery, J.K. Thompson, Kubsch, and Ward) have been sentenced to death twice, following reversal on appeal. As such, there have been a total of 104 death sentences handed down in Indiana since 1977.

19 convicted murderers have been executed in Indiana since 1977: 3 by electrocution (Judy, Vandiver, Resnover) and 16 by lethal injection (T. Smith, R. Smith, Burris, Fleenor, Bivins, J. Lowery, Hough, Trueblood, Wallace, Benefiel, Johnson, Conner, Matheney, Bieghler, Woods, and Lambert). Michael Lockhart was executed by the State of Texas in 1997 while appealing his Indiana death sentence. Alton Coleman was executed by the State of Ohio in 2002 while appealing his Indiana death sentence. One convicted murderer, David Hollis, committed suicide in 1984 while on death row. One convicted murderer, Charles Roche, committed suicide in 2006 while awaiting a new sentencing retrial. One convicted murderer, Jerry K. Thompson, was killed in 2002 by other prisoners while on death row. Two convicted murderers died of natural causes while on death row: Richard Moore in 2006 and Norman Timberlake in 2007.
